Essex Police Week of Action Dismantles Multiple County Lines Drug Gangs – March 2026 Arrests and Seizures

Essex Police recently concluded a focused week of action that successfully disrupted multiple County Lines drug networks operating across the county. This targeted operation, conducted in early March 2026, formed part of broader national efforts to combat organised drug supply and associated exploitation.

The enforcement activities involved coordinated warrants, proactive stops, targeted patrols, and intelligence-led interventions by specialist teams, including those under Operation Raptor and Operation Orochi. These operations spanned locations such as Southend, Basildon, Tendring, Chelmsford, Brentwood, Braintree, Epping, and Saffron Walden.

Key outcomes from the week included:

  • 24 arrests of individuals linked to active drug lines, with several suspects subsequently charged.
  • Seizure of approximately 1.5 kg of cocaine, over 50 g of crack cocaine and heroin, and hundreds of individual deal-sized wraps of Class A drugs.
  • Recovery of more than £108,000 in cash, along with high-value clothing and vehicles believed to have been acquired through criminal proceeds.
  • Confiscation of drug line phones integral to the coordination of these networks.

Many of these County Lines operations maintain strong connections to criminal groups based in London, which exploit vulnerable individuals—often young people or those with addiction issues—to transport and distribute drugs from urban hubs to regional markets in Essex. This model relies on coercion, violence, and grooming, contributing to community harm through increased drug availability, associated crime, and exploitation.

In addition to enforcement, officers prioritised safeguarding, providing support to vulnerable persons affected by these networks and removing them from exploitative situations.

This action aligns with Essex Police’s ongoing strategy against County Lines, which emphasises relentless year-round pursuit of organised crime groups. Cumulative results for 2026 to date demonstrate sustained impact: 58 arrests, 40 suspects charged and remanded, 37 drug lines dismantled, over 23 kg of drugs seized, and 21 vulnerable individuals safeguarded.

Such operations reduce the supply of harmful substances, disrupt criminal finances, and mitigate the broader societal effects of drug-related exploitation, thereby enhancing community safety across Essex. Essex Police continue to collaborate with regional and national partners to maintain pressure on these networks.
