West Essex is a James Braid classic hidden in Epping Forest, just 30 minutes from London Liverpool Street. Tight, tree-lined fairways, heather rough and fast greens make it a proper test — accuracy beats distance every time. The course is always in superb condition thanks to excellent drainage, and the clubhouse has panoramic views over the forest.
Stand-out holes include the short par-4 5th (risk-reward with a blind tee shot) and the beautiful 16th over a valley. The pro shop is well stocked and the halfway house bacon rolls are legendary. Perfect for a quick escape from the city.
